No 1: The Buckmore Park Learning Zone is a 'Playing for Success' (PfS) study support centre, based at the world famous Buckmore Park Kart Circuit in Chatham, Kent. The BPLZ is one of a kind within the national PfS initiative as it is one of the few centres based within an exciting and busy motor sport venue. Since opening in April 2008 the staff and students involved in the project have enjoyed every minute of their dramatic surroundings and the innovative learning opportunities on offer at Buckmore Park.
Buckmore Park Kart Circuit is committed to raising the profile of motor sports within the local community and across the UK and is thrilled to be able to provide young people with a chance to become more involved in the exciting world of karting. The unqiue and fast-paced atmosphere of Buckmore Park Kart Circuit is definitely a highly motivating and rewarding learning environment for all those that visit and all those that have taken part so far have had a fantastic time at the Buckmore Park Learning Zone!

No 2: Let's Go Karting Project
This is a nationally based project which is partly subsidised by our licensing body (Motor Sports Association) and was launched at Buckmore in 2008. Sessions take place on monthly Monday evenings between 4pm and 9pm. The scheme is aimed at children taking part in after school activities as well as for daytime school visits. During 2009 we have organised 14 sessions and catered for over 550 local youngsters, mainly from the Tonbridge and Malling, Maidstone and Medway areas. I am sure you can appreciate the educational benefits of this initiative which has been expanded further in 2010 and is aimed at children aged between 8 and 16. The subsidy is so large to encourage participation that we can for the first time offer structured initial training for as little as £5 per lesson. Again, I believe this type of project is valuable in offering school children the chance for both some fun and sport as well as of course the educational advantages of knowing how to drive at a young age before hitting the road.
No 3: Mid Kent College/North West Kent College
In 2009 w provided space and expertise to Mid Kent College and North West Kent College who operate a BTEC motor vehicle and specialist BTEC motorsport course. The two courses were a great success with over 60 16-18 year olds visiting the circuit weekly. The B-Tech qualification enables them to either go into University or employment at 18. The Scheme has been a great success and now boasts not only groups from the college but also accommodated a group from NACRO last year. Part of the course includes driver training as a reward on our main circuit. We subsidise the per head charge which is also part funded via the LSC. In September 2009 Mid Kent College have added an additional class for challenging teenagers. Both colleges have been involved in a study on developing a green fuel for karts. This research is backed by ourselves and EEMS (Energy Efficient Motorsport) as well as Honda.
No 4: Under 17 Road Driver School
Last year we launched (in conjunction with Go Driver Training) a one to one training school for youngsters aged 10-16 using road legal dual control cars and ADI instructors. The school takes place on Buckmore's large tarmac Paddock area and aims to offer both fun and education to young drivers before they reach the age of 17 and venture on to Britain's highways. It is a well known fact that by creating better road drivers at 17 accidents are reduced to both drivers and pedestrians. Over 200 youngsters have passed through the Under 17 driving school in 2009 and we are currently involved in initiatives with the Fire and Safety Executive and police force in providing advice on improving the road driving of the 17-25 year old age range.
No 5: Other Work with Youngsters — Aged 4 Upwards
We are able to offer our facilities to all youth organisations at a subsidised price — either as part of a training programme or a social event as a reward.
