The top 3 teams seen here collecting their trophies and who along with the other 32 teams managed to raise a massive £18,151 for the charity at the 2009 race. The 2010 event raised a record breaking £20,000!
Down Syndrome Extra 21 was formerly known as the North East Thames Branch of the Down Syndrome Association (DSA). Although still affiliated to the DSA, we consist of parents, carers and people with Down syndrome and are run by an elected committee of volunteers covering Essex and Greater London. Our main aims are:-
to promote equal opportunities for people with Down syndrome and offer support to them and their families.
to promote public awareness of Down syndrome and to encourage local support groups.
that all funds raised are used to further the activities of Down Syndrome Extra 21.
Every year the charity hosts a fund raising six hour team endurance race at Buckmore Park. This has traditionally been the charities biggest fundraiser of the year and sums raised are often in the region of £15,000 to £17,000.
The event this year was held on Saturday the 8th of May and looks like it might even exceed last years record £18,000 when all the sponsorship monies are collected.
UPDATE: We have now received confirmation that the total raised this year has just topped £20,000, the highest ever raised through this event.
