Buckmore & MidKent launch Karting Academy
Buckmore Park and MidKent College combine to deliver new Karting Academy
MidKent College has partnered with Kent’s iconic racing circuit Buckmore Park Karting to provide a unique opportunity for young people to gain engineering skills and prepare for further study or employment.
Responding to the rising number of NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training) young people in Kent and Medway, the partnership has developed a Karting Academy with a programme of short motor vehicle and engineering qualifications designed to engage young people with learning, and to provide a platform for them to progress in their education or into work.
Speaking at a launch event on 16th October, MidKent College Principal Simon Cook reflected on his own passion for motorsport, and said:
“Our College is absolutely committed to supporting every student to be the best that they can be by equipping them with the skills, experience and qualifications to help them in their career. We’re so proud to be working with a business that shares that passion and wants to use its unique resources and well-earned reputation to help others.”
Speaking on behalf of circuit owner and former Formula One world champion John Surtees, Buckmore Park Managing Director Steve Hollman said:
“We are very pleased to be part of this initiative and want to encourage the community – especially the youngsters – to gain experience and confidence through motorsport here at Buckmore Park. We hope that they will realise their potential and look forward to future employment in Britain’s huge motorsport and engineering industries”.
