Junior Rookie Club
About Junior Rookie
A lot of the young drivers competing in the main Junior Club Championships have been doing so for a few seasons now and are at the top of the club tree. This can be rather daunting to a new driver, one who has previously only undertaken kart school introductory lessons or who has only raced indoors somewhere.
The Rookie races were introduced for just such a driver. To allow him or her to learn to race without pressure, in a safe and friendly environment, and amongst other drivers of similar ability and experience. Races are arranged throughout the year.
What constitutes a rookie?
Well, as far as the club is concerned a rookie is a driver who has either not yet raced at all or started to race no earlier than the start of the immediately preceding season.
The minimum age is 8 and all drivers must also be a minimum of 4’ 2”. All potential drivers must have completed at least one introductory kart training here at Buckmore Park (or similar and approved elsewhere) to ensure safety and competence.
The format is exactly the same as a full Junior Club Championship race with each driver having a three lap practice, three point scoring heats and a final for every driver. Both age groups (8-13 and 12-15) race during the same event though in separate races.
