The history of Buckmore Park

Our heritage

1960s

Buckmore Park saw its inception in the early 1960’s with the initial 400m circuit.

1970s and 1980s

The circuit continued to be used during the 1970’s but by the 1980’s it had fallen into disrepair.

1990s

After extensive restoration, the National Championships were staged at the circuit for the first time. You may recognise some familiar faces in the photo above!

2015

John Surtees CBE (Formula 1 World Champion and seven time Motorcycle World Champion) bought the circuit.

2016

Redevelopment neared completion, these included brand new tarmac run-off areas, painted run-off strips and a completely new barrier system.

2017

Sadly John passed away in March 2017, leaving a rich motorsport legacy and a big vision for Buckmore.

2018

After two years in the business, Leonora Surtees, John’s daughter, took on the role of Managing Director at the circuit.

2021

In August this year Leonora stepped down from day to day operations at the circuit to pursue a new venture, but remains on the board of directors.

Philip Ling was appointed as Managing Director, having had over 20 years’ experience working at Buckmore, stepping up from his role as General Manager.

2022

With the arrival of a brand new fleet of Sodi RT10 karts, as well as further improvements to the circuit, Buckmore continues to invest in the circuit and its facilities, consistently striving to be the best kart circuit in the UK.
